HódmezővásárhelyHódmezővásárhely is situated in the South Eastern part of the Hungary, in the region of the Great Plain, Csongrád county.

The distance from from Orosháza is 30 km, that can be covered in half an hour by car, using the main road nr: 47. It is the second largest administrative area of the country.

HódmezővásárhelyHódmezővásárhely, a large agricultural town, is a significant economical, cultural and art centre of the region. The cultural roots and traditions of the town are very rich. The tourists arriving in the town will be mainly attracted by the wide range of amasing buildings of Hódemzővásárhely.

Among the historic buildings has to be mentioned the synagogue, which is one of the most outstanding synagogues in all Hungary. In our present days the Synagogue is dedicated to the memory of the Jewish population, who became victims of the Holocaust from the whole south Plain region. The City Hall was built according to the plans of the famous architect Mikolós Ybl. Another major sight is the Károlyi House, while the Agricultural Museum presents us the agricultural traditions of the place.

The Memory Point Museum takes us back in time.The unique exhibition presents by interactive means the life of people during the socialist era and the soviet occupation. As for local restaurants: they provide traditional Hungarian cuisine, satisfying the highest demands of gourmets.

Békéscsaba

Békéscsaba

Békéscsaba, the chief town of Békés county is situated within half an hour drive from Orosháza, on the main road no.47.

Scheduled coach and railway transport services are available to Békéscsaba in each hour of the day. The town with a population of 64 000 is the major commercial and industrial centre of the county. Some authorities, however, still operate in the former chief town of the county, Gyula.

Békéscsaba being a big town offers a wide choice of programmes and festivals almost in each month of the year. The best known festival is the Csaba Sausage Festival looking back to a decade of history. Gastronomy is one of the main tourist attraction of the town with the famous local sausage, traditional pig killing feasts and highly qualified restaurants. After tasteful dishes and good drinks we can enjoy the cultural programmes offered by Jókai Theatre or watch the reliques of Mihály Munkácsy, famous painter, who spent his years of apprentice at Békéscsaba.

At Békéscsaba shopping facilities tempt the arriving visitors: Csaba Center – shopping Mall in the city centre and hundreds of boutiques along the walking street offering jewellery, clothes and other things.
 

Gyula

Gyula

Gyula, known as historical spa city, is located in the south-eastern region of Hungary, at a distance of 60 km from Orosháza.

It is an important border crossing point along the Romanian border. From Orosháza it can be reached by the main road number 47 going to Békéscsaba, then by the main road number 44 going to Gyula.

Visitors can get to Gyula – a town with a population of 32 000 – easily, using the means of public transort, either by train or by bus.

Gyulai várThe main sights to see in Gyula – apart from the famous Castle Bath – include Gyula Castle, the downtown area nicely reconstructed a few years ago, the numerous fountains. Visitors can reach everything with a pleasant sight seeing walk. Among the famous personalities born in the city is the composer Ferenc Erkel who wrote the music for the Hungarian national anthem, he founded the Hungarian National Opera and composed the opera Bánk Bán. The Ferenc Erkel Memorial House,furnished in his birth house, can be found right next to the ‘Százéves’ Confectionery, the Hundred Year Old Confectionery.

The Gyula Castle Theatre offers unforgettable programmes and festivals for more than half a century. The audience can enjoy the performance of national and international artists. In summer time the teatre operates in the Castle, while in winter time the stage is placed indoors. Gyula is the town of festivals. Sausage festival is the biggest gastronomic and folk festival of summers. But pálinka and ham festivals are also popular, not to mention the historic festivals.

Talking about gastronomy: the long lasting traditions of meat industry are presented in the Museum situated in the neighbourhood of the Meat Combine of Gyula Plc, which is one of the oldest Hungarian meat industrial companies int he country. What else could be the souvenir taken home from this town than a pair of Gyula smoked sausages.

 

Tótkomlós

Tótkomlós

Tótkomlós is situated about 15 km to south of Orosháza. Due to its easy accessibility tourists can get to this destination even on bicycle.

The settlement with its 6 000 inhabitants is a bastion of Slovak minority in Békés county. Nowadays people still preserve and practice their national traditions and show them with pride to arriving visitors.

The Rózsa Bath at Tótkomlós, the Slovak house of folk arts and the farmstead museum-showing the life of people on farms-attract many tourists.

Tótkomlós is situated halfway between Orosháza and Mezőhegyes, in this way if we plan a longer trip Tótkomlós can be a nice stop during the journey, showing us a typical town of the Lowland area. The town is accessible by railway or coach in a fast and comfortable way.
